Growing up, I was known as the girl who always had her face in books — until I was the one creating them. Storytelling is the bottomless chocolate fountain I keep coming back to whether I’m the reader, writer, artist, or editor. Therefore, I believe as a senior communication major with an addiction to reading teen fiction novels that I qualify to be Balzer + Bray’s Editorial Intern for summer 2020.
My current job as a content producer for the Rambler Media Group gives me experience as a copywriter, layout and graphics designer, and photographer. With my news writing skills, I’m able to summarize key points clearly and concisely. I can also set the scene writing book jacket hooks with my feature writing skills. Working news also has me used to working on different projects at the same time.
Also, creating content comes with the responsibility of promoting it on social media. I’ve had experience crafting promotional social media posts for both my organization and my personal Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. In my Texas Wesleyan classes, I’ve also received the social media certifications in Hootsuite and Hubspot and practiced social media campaign designs in Canva. I also have experience designing in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop with graphics, photo editing, and page layout.
In my previous role as editor-in-chief, I lead the editorial and general meetings and later communicated the important notes over email. My main role as an editor was to decide which stories to publish on which platform as well as copy edit stories and give writing tips to newer writers. I’ve also gotten practice critiquing writing outside of journalistic writing with my creative writing classes at Wesleyan.
I’ve really enjoyed telling the story of Wesleyan for the last four years, but it’s time for me to turn the page. Therefore, I’d like to demonstrate my passion for books in an interview for the Balzer + Bray Editorial Internship for June 2020.
Thank you for your time,
Hannah Onder

Brief Editing Memo:
In the cover letter, I changed the date format and fixed a few grammar errors. I also changed a few transitions so the transition also wasn’t used back to back. In the resume, I caught a few tense errors and a date error which I corrected. I also made a few cosmetic changes with the header at the suggestion of one of my design professors.
